Position Overview

Family Planning Council, a large, well-regarded not-for-profit human services agency in downtown Philadelphia, is seeking a Director of Special Projects.  This person will initiate, manage and direct programs that expand the Council’s role in public health issues beyond family planning related service delivery programs and activities. These areas include but are not limited to maternity services, cancer prevention, parenting services, prison programs and services to adjudicated youth. The successful candidate must be must be able work with diverse populations and agencies; have demonstrated budge management and quantitative skills related to assessing and monitoring public health issues; have a broad knowledge of public health issues relevant to Council programs and have excellent written and verbal communication skills.  Primary job responsibilities include:

  • Develop, implement and manage programs, grant proposals and budgets for current & new initiatives administered by the Special Projects Department.
  • Negotiate, construct, administer, and monitor service subcontracts related to Special Projects programs.
  • Supervise a 3 person Special Projects Department staff.
  • In collaboration with other team members, design and implement quality assurance systems and performance indicators.
  • Develop and implement overall long-term and short-term marketing and sustainability strategies for the Special Projects Programs.
  • Provide and/or oversee the provision of trainings on policies and procedures for service providers and subcontractors.
  • Coordinate with Public Affairs the development and implementation of media coverage with local television, radio, and newspaper related to Special Projects programs.
  • Recruit new service providers for the Special Projects program initiatives.


Requirements

  • Masters degree in Public Administration, Nursing, Public Health or Health Care Administration preferred
  • Must have 5+ years in health related program planning and implementation and 3+ years in staff supervision.
